Over the last year, we’ve spent more time at home than many of us ever expected! That rise in time around the house led to a major increase in home improvement projects since we’ve all had more chances to look around the house and see things we want to fix. As many as 89% of homeowners decided to undertake a pandemic project! With so many people tackling home renovations, you might wonder what projects have been the most popular this year. Let’s take a look!

Improving outdoor space

One study found that up to 31% of homeowners planned to revamp their outdoor living space. It’s a smart move too, as it can add value to your home if you decide to sell. Some of the most popular outdoor projects included redoing or refinishing a patio or deck space, upgrading landscaping, and adding a greenhouse. Landscaping and yard upgrades are an important part of curb appeal and home value, so even just replacing plants and fixing up the yard can boost your home’s value.

Bathroom remodels

Did you know that up to 65% of homeowners remodeled one or more bathrooms during the pandemic? Bathroom remodels are a popular option since they aren’t usually as involved as a major kitchen renovation, and they can deliver short- and long-term benefits for homeowners. With so many people staying at home, homeowners wanted to create a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere.

Home office upgrades

You probably guessed this one! The massive shift in remote work forced many people to reconsider their guest room, spare room, or basement space. Home office updates were among the most popular projects. Many experts are guessing this trend is here to stay - the rise in remote or flexible work means a greater demand for home office space, especially when buyers are looking at potential homes.

Living room updates

Many homeowners decided to update their living space to accommodate more time at home! One survey found that 38% of homeowners made some form of upgrade to their living room. Whether it was a bigger TV, new furniture, or a more intense remodel, many people decided to make the most of their living area with some new updates.

Kitchen remodels

This is a big undertaking, but around 43% of homeowners decided to remodel or update their kitchen during the pandemic. With so many people cooking more at home, lots of homeowners decided they needed a better kitchen to cook in! Kitchen upgrades can be a great selling point when you put your home on the market, just remember that kitchens should be updated to appeal to the highest number of possible buyers.
