Late Summer Lawn Care Tips

Garden with yellow and white flowers and blue sky

With the summer heat well underway, you might be wondering how to keep your lawn and garden looking healthy! This is especially important if you are trying to sell your home right now - make sure your lawn has great curb appeal to keep buyers interested. When the weather stays hot, it’s hard to help your lawn look its best.

#1. Consider seeding areas that need a boost

Noticing some brown spots or bare patches in your lawn? Take action now and consider seeding those struggling spots. You have a little time to start this - experts recommend doing this closer to Labor Day when the weather cools down a little. Do some research on the best grass seed for your area, or talk to a local lawn expert.

#2. Keep an eye out for pests

Are annoying bugs or other pests wreaking havoc on your plants and yard? Take a quick walk around your yard and check out any spots that appear to be affected. It’s better to address the issue now before pests become a major issue in your lawn (especially if you are selling!).

#3. Take care of weeds

Weeds are a common issue in the summertime, so prevent them from taking over your lawn by managing the problem early! Do some research on what type of weeds you’re seeing (or ask your neighbors too!) and treat the weeds accordingly. Maintaining a healthy lawn now can help ensure your lawn looks great next year.

#4. Manage water usage

In a hot, dry climate like ours, it can be hard to keep your lawn from browning. If we do get some rain, adjust your watering schedule accordingly. Too much water can cause fungus growth or other issues, so just be aware of how much water you’re using. You’ll see some lawn experts recommend watering in the morning, versus others who say you should water at night, but the most important thing is to make sure you aren’t watering during the day when it’s hot out.

With just a few ongoing tips and tricks, you can help your lawn stay healthy and beautiful! Just remember - get in touch with me at 8z Real Estate with any questions about buying or selling. I’m always happy to have a conversation about your needs!
