5 Ways to Stage Your Home During the Holidays

If you’re selling your home over the holiday season, you may wonder if it requires a different approach to staging. While all the basics are still important - removing personal items and photos, simplifying your decor, and decluttering your space - you can bring in a little holiday cheer to help your potential buyers imagine spending the next holiday season in this house!

#1. Deck your front porch

Spruce up your front porch with a festive wreath on the front door. Choose something that’s simple, bright, and green! You can also add planters with some winter-friendly plants (maybe even some realistic-looking plastic plants) to make your home look welcoming and expertly decorated.

#2. Set the table

When you’re staging your dining area, decorate the table as if you were preparing for a holiday feast. Showcase some of your nice dishes and dress up your table with candlesticks or a beautiful flower arrangement. Show off your home’s entertaining features and help your buyers picture their next holiday party in the space.

#3. Cozy up your living spaces

When the weather gets cooler, it’s natural to want to stay inside and cozy up on the couch. Make your family room more inviting with warm, comfy blankets and a supply of firewood, if you have a wood-burning stove. Think about adding some simple decorative pillows for the season too. You don’t have to completely redecorate, just incorporate some wintertime themes. You can even put out some mugs on the counter too!

#4. Keep curb appeal in mind

While one person might love tons of lights and holiday figurines, another person may prefer a quieter look. Tone down outdoor decorations and go light on the lights. You can use a few strands of lights to line your home or use them to draw attention to your beautiful tree. Just remember - the simpler, the better.

#5. Keep decorations in check

While some beautiful poinsettia plants and some natural-looking garland can make your home beautiful, too many decorations can overwhelm a buyer and become distracting. Keep your decorations simple and classic, and remember that buyers who celebrate all types of holidays will be visiting your home.

Many people used to think that selling a home during the winter wasn’t optimal, but according to Dave Ramsey, over a million homes were sold in the U.S. last winter. Buyers in the winter months tend to be more motivated because inventory is generally lower. With a few specialized staging tips, your home can be ready in no time! The weather may be cooling down, but the housing market is still hot.
