A new school year is here! If kids in your family are getting ready to head back to school, you may be thinking about ways to update or rearrange your house to keep everything organized. If you’re thinking about selling, showing off an organized home is a great selling point. Having a dedicated home office or school work space is a popular must-have item for today’s buyers, so it’s a smart move if your home is going on the market soon.

#1. Create a dedicated shoes and backpack drop zone

Nobody enjoys a cluttered entryway, so create a specific space for your kids to leave their shoes and bags that’s organized and out of the way. You can add hooks for bags, a shoe stand for footwear, and individual mailboxes for important folders and school work. If you’re thinking about selling your home, an organized entryway is a great first impression!

#2. Reorganize your pantry

Do the kids come home hungry and ready for a snack? Set up a dedicated snack spot to prevent everyone from digging through the entire pantry looking for an after-school snack. It’s simple to get storage containers and a few labels - you’d be surprised how helpful and easy this can be. Looking to do a more in-depth cleanout? Check out this video from The Home Edit on how to completely update your pantry.

#3. Maintain a dedicated schoolwork space

With so many kids attending school online last year, you may already have a place where your kids are used to managing their schoolwork. Even if it’s just your kitchen table, you can add a small organizer with school supplies, space for books and folders, and more! You don’t have to have a specific office space to make this work - having just a few organizational systems in place can help your kids stay focused.

#4. Set up your calendar system

Back to school season usually means an increase in your activities during the week and on the weekend! Wondering how to manage it all? You can use a tried-and-true print or dry erase calendar, or you can find an app to help you keep track of everything. If they are old enough, you can ask your kids to help add items to your calendar or double-check their schedule so they start taking an interest in what’s going on. If you’re looking for a calendar app, here’s a quick guide to many popular apps.

#5. Start prepping for tomorrow, today!

Whether it’s pre-packed lunches or outfits laid out, anything you can do today to help yourself tomorrow is great. Looking to take it one step further? You can leverage meal prepping to make lunches in bulk. It’s an easy way to make your life easier and take the stress out of packing lunches. Check out these school lunch meal prep ideas!
