5 Ways to Get Your Yard in Shape for Spring

A field of yellow spring flowers

Spring is just around the corner! Although in Colorado, that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods when it comes to surprise snowstorms. With warmer weather just ahead, you might be thinking about getting your yard and patio ready for sunny outdoor days.

If you’re thinking about selling your home, a well-cared-for lawn is a huge selling point! A great front and back yard can give your home major curb appeal and boost your chances of selling faster. Here are a few quick ways you can help your outdoor space look its best when spring (finally) rolls around.

Trim the trees and bushes

Maintaining healthy trees and shrubbery is crucial to the health of your yard and foliage. Keeping your trees trimmed will also help guard against loose and broken branches if we get a heavy spring snowstorm too! When it comes to large tree maintenance, it’s best to leave those to the experts. However, if you just need to clean up bushes and shrubberies, here’s a quick rundown of how to do it! Grab some shears and some garden gloves, and head outside!

Patch or seed bare spots in the lawn

Did winter do a number on your grass? Consider re-seeding bare areas in your grass, or even putting down some sod. Make sure to fertilize and water frequently to give your new grass the best shot at healthy growth! You can also aerate your lawn to provide essential nutrients and oxygen to your lawn.

Tune-up your lawnmower

It’s no fun to get ready to mow the lawn, only to find out that the lawnmower is broken! Avoid the hassle and tune up your lawn equipment before you really need to use it. Check over your other lawn tools for any repairs or replacements you might need before the weather warms up. Even better? Put a new blade on your mower for a sharp cut on the grass.

Prep your outdoor furniture

Have all your outdoor furniture cushions been collecting dust in the garage? Shake them off and get them ready for some sunshine! Hose off outdoor furniture and wipe down tables so your patio is ready for happy hour in no time.

Add new mulch around the yard

Spreading mulch around the garden area is a great way to help your plants retain moisture. It’s important to consider the right type of mulch for your plants, so have a quick conversation with a garden specialist before you start.
